MORE ABOUT RCC. One of the programs in Rotary’s panoply of worldwide service activities and projects is the Rotary Community Corps (RCC). Formerly known as Rotary Village Corps ( or Rotary Community Service Corps in urban areas), this form of grassroots self-help service was initiated by RI President M.A.T. Caparas in 1986 as a means of improving the quality of life in villages, neighborhoods, and communities. The program is built on the premise that there is frequently an abundance of available labor in an area but no process for mobilizing men and women to conduct useful projects of community improvement. A Rotary Community Corps is a Rotary club-sponsored group of non-Rotarians who want to help their own community by conducting service projects. Rotarians provide professional expertise, guidance, encouragement, organizational structure, and some material assistance for the RCC, whose members contribute the manpower and knowledge of community needs to help their own community. Thus, the Rotary Community Corps offers another way for Rotarians to serve in places of great need.

ACTION from RCC of ISLAND GREEN

Rotary Club of Island Green Members and RCC members supporting Society for Community Organisation “Flag Day” 21 August 2021

Thanks to RCC Leader Olive Chan who introduced this opportunity to Rotary Club of Island Green.

In the morning of 21st August 2021, 10 Rotarians and RCC members were joined by over 25 young parents and 15 young children between the age of 4 to 8, took to the street of Tsimshatsui and gave their best effort to support Society for Community Organisation’s Flag Day (SoCO).

Some Rotarians were selling flags for their first time and experienced mixed feelings how the general public greet the “flag sellers” with a negative attitude. However, it was all part of learning as we truly appreciate the saying “Don’t stop doing when you think the good deed is too small”! As Rotarians, we face everyday issues with positive energy, a big smile and a huge “Thank You”…whether they choose to donate a fiver or walk away with embarrassment.

We serve to change lives…a little at a time.

2 POTENTIAL RCCs are COMING.

During the past few weeks, I have visited two clubs with promotion of RCC. They are RC of Hong Kong Fairview, and RC of Peninsula Sunrise. Let’s wait for good news from these two clubs shortly.
