Key Focuses

(I) Appointment of District Youth Protection Officer – Rotary International has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse and harassment against young participants of our programs. District Governor Eric has appointed PP Silva Yeung of Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile to be in charge of youth protection affairs. PP Silva had extensive experience in the social service sector and will be implementing the relevant policies and setting up the proper structure. We need clubs to cooperate so that the suitable level of protection can be given to our youth in compliance with RI’s requirements.

(II) Incentives for chartering new Rotaract and Interact clubs – For any Rotaract club successfully chartered during RY2020-2021, DG Eric and PDG Eugene will personally contribute HK$3,000 each into the new club towards its community service projects. And for any Interact club successfully chartered during RY2020-2021, DG Eric and PDG Eugene will also personally contribute HK$1,500 each towards its community service projects. We hope that by establishing new clubs, Rotary can reach out to some new communities.

(III) Rotary-Rotaract collaboration – Rotary International has removed the upper age limit on Rotaractors from 1 July 2020. This reflects a change of mindset: Rotary now sees Rotaractors as critically important to the sustainability of our organization. The latest 5-year Action Plan of Rotary International has revealed a strong calling made to all Rotary Districts and clubs to make Rotary more attractive to young people for them to stay, and all clubs should consider changing their meeting format, governance structure, meal costs etc. accordingly. The committee has invited PP Andy Li to be in charge of overseeing this very important task and visiting different Rotary clubs to seek opinions and build consensus.

(IV) Rotary youth exchange – District 3450 currently is authorized to organize outbound youth exchange from Macau only and for years, secondary students have been sent over to UK to take part in summer camp to learn English. District Governor Eric believes that it is time for the program to be made available to youngsters in Hong Kong and Mongolia, in addition, Macau should start running inbound exchanges to receive young people from other Rotary Districts. The committee will work with District Legal Advisor, District Secretary team and District Treasurer for the necessary documentation work and obtain the necessary approval from Rotary International.

(V) INTEROTA – INTEROTA 2020 has been deferred to June 2021. The committee will support the Organizing Committee to ensure the event will be a successful one for District 3450. We need support, both financial and manpower, from all Rotarians and Rotaractors towards this mega event.
