DG Eric Chak proudly presented 2 significant RI Awards in the last District Conference:
- Service Above Self Award – PDG Belinda Yeung JP
- Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award – PDG Jason Chan
Service Above Self Award:
Congratulations to PDG Belinda Yeung (“BY”) for receiving the Service Above Self Award – Rotary’s highest honor that recognizes Rotarians who demonstrate Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, by volunteering their time and talents to help others. The Award is internationally competitive and is granted to no more than 150 Rotarians worldwide, and no more than one from each district, each year.
PDG BY is a member of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour (“the Club” / “Home Club”). She joined the Club in 1999 and had served as Director of Community Service for many Rotary Years. When PDG BY was President in 2010, she led her Club in raising HK$2,000,000 to (1) build and operate 10 Clinics in remote villages benefitting thousands of villagers; (2) construct a Water Tower on top of one of the mountains to supply water to many villages; and (3) sponsor female students to attend university which changed their life.
When PDG BY was District Governor in 2014, she led the District in raising HK$10,000,000 and created a Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship for the Vocational Training Council (“VTC”). The Scholarships are for poor students aiming to give them an opportunity for upward social mobility. To appreciate RID 3450 for the Scholarships, VTC has titled one of their Shatin campus library “The Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resource Center”.
As a Past District Governor, PDG BY is very supportive to the District – giving advice from time to time, working for and leading in District Committees – District Rotary Foundation Committee, District Public Image Committee, District Governor-nominee Election Committee and as District Trainer, to name a few. PDG BY was Chairman of our PDG Council between 2018 and 2020.
PDG BY currently serves as Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator of Zone 9.
Outside Rotary, PDG BY contributes a lot of her time and effort on giving back to the HKSAR community – in the capacities of serving in the Government committees, in trade associations, and in non-Rotary service organizations. These organizations include the Hong Kong Chief Executive Election Committee, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society, Sheen Hok Charitable Foundation (since 2010), and Operations Smile.
PDG BY was appointed Justice of the Peace (“JP”) by the HK Government in 2019. She was also awarded Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014 as well as Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Vocation Training Council in 2015.
Under PDG BY’s leadership, Regal Hotels International is known for its sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility Programs focusing on Youth Development and Health Care. The HKSAR Government has awarded Regal one of the Caring Companies in the city for many years.
PDG BY is visionary and a great motivator. She is very dedicated in what she does and is very reliable on delivering her commitments. PDG BY is a very resourceful person; one can always seek PDG BY for advice – on constitutional matters and for out-of-the-box ideas.
Last but not least, apart from setting example by personally participating in community service projects, PDG BY trained her daughter to serve when she was young – Stephanie started to work as a volunteer in the Red Cross at 13. Stephanie has been very dedicated in helping young persons in the medical field since then.
Thank you PDG BY for her contributions. I take this opportunity to, once again, congratulate PDG BY for receiving the Service Above Self Award that she well deserves.
