Rotary International District 3450 promoting peace with Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (“LPCUWC”) by holding a peace camp (“Peace Camp”) for the youth

As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission. Rotary believes when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect. This is also shared by the mission and values of LPCUWC in making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. This has therefore led to the collaboration of Rotary International District 3450 and LPCUWC in promoting peace to the youth worldwide through a peace camp held in Hong Kong. The idea of co-organizing a peace camp was first a result of discussion back in summer 2020 between Rotary International District 3450 Peace Committee, which was led by the Committee Chair PDG Peter Pang and its members DGN Andy Li, PP Wong Wai Tung and PP Mahmood Rumjahn, and LPCUWC, which was led by its Chairman of Board of Director, Mr Anthony TONG Kai Hong, the Principal, Arnett Edwards and the manager, Adrian Kwong. Peace Camp 2022 successfully held in March 2022 with over 120 youth participants from worldwide
第二屆和平營會於2022年3月成功舉辦並有來自全球多達120多名青少年參加
The 2nd Peace Camp (“Peace Camp 2022”) was held on 19 March 2022 in virtual mode due to the impact of Covid-19 pandemic. There were more than 120 youth participants from over 30 secondary schools including Rotary’s Interactors from Hong Kong and Mongolia, Rotary-Adopt-A-School (RASS) partner school students and secondary school students connected with LPCUWC. The participants come from over 10 countries covering India, Mongolia, Nepal, USA, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Iran, Australia, Venezuela, China and Hong Kong SAR.
由於疫情關係，第二屆和平營會（”2022年度和平營會”）於2022年3月19日以網上形式舉行，當日有超過120名來自30多所中學的青少年參與，包括來自香港和蒙古的扶輪少年服務團團員、扶輪與校同行合作伙伴的學生及與LPCUWC有聯繫的中學生，他們分別來自10多個國家，包括印度，蒙古，尼泊爾，美國，菲律賓，斯里蘭卡，阿塞拜疆，伊朗，澳大利亞，委內瑞拉，中國和香港特別行政區。
Peace Camp 2022 co-organized by Rotary International District 3450 and LPCUWC was successfully held in March 2022 with over 120 participants from worldwide. This year, the theme of peace camp is ”Engage with Distinguished Advocates & Reflect on Diversity and Inclusion”.
國際扶輪3450地區與李寶椿聯合世界書院合辦的2022年度和平營會於2022年3月成功舉辦，來自世界各地參加和平營會的青少年多達120人。今年，和平營會的主題是多元化和包容性。
Rotary’s People-of-Action (POA) promoting peace in Peace Camp 2022

The Peace Camp 2022 started with speech by officiating guests Keith Chow, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450 and Arnett Edwards, the Principal of LPCUWC. 2022年度和平營會首先由主禮嘉賓國際扶輪3450地區總監周基業先生及LPCUWC校長Arnett Edwards的演講揭開序幕。
The Peace Camp 2022 started with the speech by officiating guests Keith Chow, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450 and Arnett Edwards, the Principal of LPCUWC. It was followed by different activities and role play games amongst the youth participants for them to experience a new perspective in face of conflict, marginalization and poverty while Rotarians and Rotaractors acted as facilitators throughout the Peace Camp. Different advocates were also invited to share their insights on equity, ethnic identities, gender identities, inclusion and setting personal goals for peace generation etc. The Peace Camp 2022 was successfully completed with a closing remark by PDG Peter Pang, Rotary International District 3450 Peace Committee Chair. By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships in the Peace Camp, all Rotary members including Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interators took action together to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension and unequal distribution of resources.

Rotary International District 3450 and LPCUWC co-organized the second virtual peace camp on 19 March 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants came from all around the world including Hong Kong, Nepal, Mangala, Mongolia, etc. The theme of the event is diversity and inclusion. During the activities, participants could not only enhance their relationship and cultural exchange experience but also learn how to trade-off when facing different opinions. Furthermore, the event invited advocates in various fields, such as underprivileged, minority and LGBTQ+ communities, to share their views when facing unfair treatment and discrimination, therefore drawing attention among participants to the above topics, helping them put themselves in and think about different people’s plight and tolerate others’ choices.
國際扶輪3450地區與香港李寶椿聯合世界書院於2022年3月19日疫情期間合辦第二屆網上和平營會。活動的參加者來自世界各地，包括香港、尼泊爾、曼加拉及蒙古等地。是次活動的主題是多樣性和包容性。 各地成員透過參與不同活動，除了增進感情及彼此間的文化交流，亦有機會學習到在面對各方不同意見時應該如何取捨。同時，活動邀請了各個領域包括扶貧、少數族裔和LGBTQ+社群的倡議者分享他們對不公平對待及歧視的看法，從而喚起各人對以上主題的關注，設身處地為現今不同的族群思考他們的困境以及包容他們的選擇。

- Joining activity “Pictionary”(lower picture on left) – using the drawing function in Zoom, a member draws a picture corresponding to the given words on the whiteboard, and then other members in the group guess the correct words through the hints given by the drawn picture.

During the game, each group spent the allocated money in different forms to simulate the model of the government in the reality.

Facilitators guided the participants to reflect on themselves and understand more about people in different social strata.

Rotary Club of New Territories is committed to promoting international understanding, goodwill and peace. It facilitates global interaction and communication through supporting the youth to actively participate in inclusion experiential activities, thus achieving mutual respect and acceptance. On 19 March 2022, Rotary Club of New Territories generously sponsored STMGSS students to participate in the virtual “Peace Camp 2022” co-organized by Rotary International District 3450 and LPCUWC, allowing them to interact with peace advocates, communicate with participants from different backgrounds and engage in group discussions and games for learning to respect differences with care and empathy as well as enhancing acceptance and recognition of ethnic, sexual and gender diversity. Under the guidance of facilitators, participants explored issues regarding equality, conflict resolution and alleviation of poverty, thereby setting personal goals to pursue world peace and inclusive communities. Participants deeply realized the importance of listening wholeheartedly and understanding the circumstances and feelings of others. They also gained the opportunity to communicate with others in English and make friends with people from different parts of the world. STMGSS participants expressed their gratitude to Rotary Club of New Territories for its support and giving them such a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

新界扶輪社致力推動國際之間的了解、親善與和平，並透過支持青年積極參與共融體驗活動，加強各方接觸與溝通，達致互相尊重和接納。2022年3月19日，新界扶輪社慷概資助了南屯門官立中學學生參與由國際扶輪第3450地區和香港李寶椿聯合世界書院在線上舉行的「和平營會」，讓同學透過與和平倡議者交流、與不同背景的參加者溝通，以及進行小組討論和遊戲，學習以關懷和同理心尊重差異，並提升對多元性別與種族的接納與認同。參與學員在導師的指導下，探討平等、解決衝突和消除貧困等議題，並為追求和平定下個人目標，一同締造和諧共融的社區。參與學員深深體會到用心聆聽及易地而處的重要性，同時有機會運用英語與人溝通，結識世界各地的好友。一眾南官學員再次感謝新界扶輪社的支持，讓他們有這難能可貴的體驗。
