Rotary Park selected as one of the designated Rotary Landmarks of 2020-21 Rotary HK UltraMarathon
The Rotary Park of Rotary Club of New Territories was selected as one of the designated Rotary landmarks of 2020-21 Rotary Ultramarathon of Rotary International District 3450. (for details, please visit the event facebook page https://www.facebook.com/1646131185659293/posts/2811051609167239/ ). In response to the epidemic situation, the event was changed to a virtual run mode. All participating teams arranged their own running routes. Each team is limited to maximum 8 members to achieve an aggregate total of 50 kilometres running distance. Each team must have at least one team member to visit one of the designated Rotary landmarks, including the Rotary Park of the Rotary Club of New Territories in Tai Mo Shan, Tsuen Wan.
Rotary International District 3450 District Governor Dr. Eric Chak personally visited the Rotary Park to cheer up the Rotarians and inspect the renovated facilities in the Rotary Park.
Thanks to Rotary International District 3450 District Governor Dr. Eric Chak for arriving at the Rotary Park early on the day of the event to cheer up the Rotarians. Rotary Club of New Territories also played host to arrange the event banner to cheer up and take picture with visiting Rotarians from different Rotary Clubs.
Rotary Club of New Territories sent three teams to the virtual run
This year, Rotary Club of New Territories sent a total of three teams to participate in the Rotary HK UltraMarathon, including one team from Rotary Club of New Territories and two teams from Rotaract Club of New Territories and Rotaract Club of Chung Chi College, CUHK. The teams raised fund for Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation by completing Rotary Ultramarathon together at the Rotary Park in Tai Mo Shan, Tsuen Wan.
Rotary Club of New Territories invited its member, Mark Ho, to design a running route suitable for all ages, allowing the 8-persons team to complete the 50-kilometer running distance goal after finishing the route. During the event, Rotary Club of New Territories also joined the online carnival of the event to live broadcast highlights of the running at Rotary Park to encourage Rotarians running at other Rotary landmarks.
Rotary Park – a perfect spot for mega outdoor events
Rotary Park of Rotary Club of New Territories proves to be a suitable venue for large-scale walking fundraising events after holding End Polio Freestyle Walk and Rotary HK UltraMarathon Virtual Run.
President Francis Chan of Rotary Club of New Territories shared his thoughts about the event, ‘The Rotary Park is selected as designated Rotary landmark for Rotary HK UltraMarathon. This has multiple significance to Rotary Club of New Territories and the Rotary Park.
Firstly, the day of the event was the first time for Rotary International District 3450 District Governor Dr. Eric Chak to visit the Rotary Park since the monument of 50th anniversary of Rotary Club of New Territories was completed in the Rotary Park. During the event, we seized the opportunity to introduce to District Governor Dr. Eric Chak the results of the renovation of various facilities in the Rotary Park as led by the Immediate Past President Terence Lun in the year 2019-20.
Secondly, Rotary Club of New Territories has organized the End Polio Freestyle Walk in Rotary Park earlier to support the Rotary International’s signature project (see https://dg-newsletter.rid3450.org/2020/12/09/新界扶輪社扶輪公園消滅小兒麻痹自由行2020新界扶/ for details) . This time Rotary Club of New Territories also completed Rotary HK UltraMarathon in the Rotary Park to support the signature project of Rotary International District 3450. The successful holding of End Polio Freestyle Walk and Rotary HK UltraMarathon Virtual Run in Rotary Park proves that Rotary Park is a suitable place for large-scale walking fundraising activities.
Thirdly, I am very pleased that the Rotary Park of Rotary Club of New Territories is selected as one of the designated Rotary landmarks of Rotary HK UltraMarathon. At the same time, I am also happy to see that many Rotary Clubs choose Rotary Park as the Rotary landmark that must be passed by. I hope everyone enjoys the renovated facilities in the Rotary Park and the comfortable Rotary Park Nature Education Trail during the running process. I also hope that the Rotary Park can provide everyone a good outdoor place to relieve anti-epidemic fatigue.’
